 "Good Cordless Phone" 2007-01-19
By Jerry O'Brien
It works great. Since we hung it in the kitchen where a previous phone was, using the same screws, we didn't check the range. All the features work as advertised.

 "great buy" 2006-12-04

i use this phone with my VOPI service, and it has been great. i wish it had a few more functions, but for the price, its a great value and bottom line--sound quality is great.

 "Absolutely Terrible Phone!!!" 2006-08-11
By Doug W. Warner (Kansas City)
I bought this phone from a local merchant to replace the 2.4ghz phone that I had before. I thought the 5.8ghz would provide better reception, better distance, etc. WRONG!! I mirror the thoughts of a previous reviewer...this is the worst phone I have ever owned.

Terrible static, unbelievably short range and poor quality throughout. The only redeeming feature is the easy to read screen, but there is no way that that offsets all the negatives. Avoid at all costs.

"Cheap phone - cheap quality" 2006-05-24
By Dave (Brooklyn, NY)
One of the worst phones I have ever wasted money on. Lousy voice quality, unbearable static, and to ice the cake the phone died after only 3 mos. Invest a few more $$ into something of better quality.

"poorly made, lasts only a year, no online help, do not buy" 2008-12-10
By Deborah A. Kemp (Berkeley, California USA)
I have had this product for one year and must now discard it and purchase another product because taking it to a repair would cost more than purchasing a new product. It is poorly constructed and neither the online help nor manual were of any use. This product doesn't even deserve a one star.

     "Easy to use" 2008-05-04
By Ronald E. Pagels (Richmond, MI)
I bought one of these phones to use in Florida. I always have been happy with Panasonic products and this is no exception. This phone is very easy to program and use. Especially the memory function. I like it so well that I bought a second one to use in our home in Michigan.

     "Low volume" 2004-08-29
    By S. Chiang (Boston, MA)
It's often difficult to hear the other person even when the volume of the handset is set to maximum. I don't think it's just that I'm hard of hearing, however, since I haven't had this problem with other phones (both cordless and corded).

     "Good phone system" 2007-11-14
By H. Maupin (Washington, DC, USA)
I have been using the KX-TG5771 phone for four months now and find it very satisfactory. The range of the handset is great, extending from the front porch to the rear patio with good quality throughout (the base is in a second floor office). Sound quality is fine, and the headset accessory is very comfortable and clear - great for conference calls.

     "Panasonic's Plastic Screen Covers " 2007-07-28
    By Carol Adams
Ten months ago, (October 07), I purchased this particular Panasonic cordless telephone. It has functioned well; however recently some guests used the telephone regularly for six weeks at the end of which time I noticed that the Plastic lens that covers the window of the face of the telephone was so badly etched that I could not see through it anymore. I called Panasonic to report the problem and to ask them how to repair it or if I could send it back to get a new Plastic face plate. Panasonic told me that the Plastic was "damaged" by cosmetics and therefore the warranty was now void. Although most women wear cosmetics; Panasonic's choice of this type of Plastic to use on a product which is held against face and hair was, according to Panasonic, an excellent choice and they have no plans to change it. They told me I had no options outside of buying a new telephone. Further discussion revealed that they would not repair it, they only replace them, and of course since mine had been "damaged by coming into contact with cosmetics", the warranty was now void, therefore; nothing would be done about it. And furthermore they did not care whether their product lasted less than a year, or that there was no warning regarding damage caused by cosmetic use or that the resulting damage would then void their warranty. Nowhere in all the literature or warranty that comes with the Panasonic telephone does it mention anything about the care of the Plastic cover, or that cosmetics would damage the Plastic and void the warranty. If you buy this product, you should know that Panasonic will void your warranty if you use cosmetics, which admittedly causes damage to the telephone screen cover.

     "Panasonic losing their edge" 2007-04-19
    By Michael Albanese (NYC)
I purchased the phone to replace the Panasonic that I had for about 4 years. The older phone was rich in functionality and performed outstandingly well.

NOT this phone. Many of the features are either missing or buried under two or three layers of menus. It does not even have a find handset option on it's front which is key to today's portable home phones.

     "Outraged at uselessness" 2007-02-15
    By Newhampster (New England)
    I don't usually write reviews.

The phone doesn't automatically work when I plug it in. Dials OK. But doesn't respond to a ring.

I returned it to Amazon. Second unit (replacement, received today) is just like the first.

This is really outrageous. (Other phones plugged into same jack ring fine. Unit is powered up. Battery is charged. Base unit ring volume set high. Same for handheld unit. Phone does not respond to incoming calls in any way -- no flashing light, no answering machine pickup, no ring. Phone makes outgoing calls fine. When I dial the phone's number from the phone itself, phone network indicates busy.)

I am now waiting for a response from Panasonic technical support.

     "Bad reception" 2007-01-27

After only three months the reception on this phone is almost completely shot. Lots of static makes callers virtually inaudible.

      By George B (USA)
Worked ok for one year, but then battery would not recharge. I bought a new set of battery, sames story, so I guess the handset are mal functioning. Now for the last 6 months (1.5 year after purchase) the communication drops after 5mins which is really really anoying. I would not recommend buying this phone. I would not recommend buying V-Tech at all, as I think the design of the phones and the quality are really poor.

      By Maui Tim (Maui)
My sister bought this phone set and had problems with the battery after about 1 year. I also purchased it and have encountered the same problem with the "check battery" warning. Very annoying when you go to pick up the phone and the handset won't work. When I pull the battery and put it back in the base charger the problem clears up, but not for long, within an hour or two the same warning will appear.

"Hand Set on Satellite Died after Year Light Use..." 2008-02-13
By darkguardian2 (San Diego, CA United States)
Purchase phone on Amazon to replace Vtech 2.4 Ghz Model, we had for 3 years. Phone works like old one including PhoneBook bug that forces you to re-enter the whole phone number to add a "1" to front of long distance numbers captured by Caller ID. Main issues are the green night light that makes the display hard to read. Compared to the orange-amber light of the 2.4 Ghz model was a step backwards with it's bold face display. The satellite phone only worked for a year before getting a Warning!! Check Battery message on the display and the battery with no charge. The model I have uses a single battery pack and not the new rechargable AAA version. I followed the troubleshooting guide and even bought a new battery and still have the Warning message. Contacted Vtech and they said I need a new phone. I'll get a new phone but not from Vtech. This phone is bearly a year old and lightly used. I can use the phone but I need to pull the battery out and reinsert it (reboot) to temperarily fix the problem and charge the battery. To have two different battery pack versions means there was a redesign and I got Version 1.0. Otherwise, the phone works fine.

I brought this phone in 2006 but in between one year one of the phones started showing low battery sign.If i reinsert battery phone works for some time. So far, i dont see any problems with phone other than previous one.I have no complain regarding functioning of handsets but to configure answering machine i had to go through number of steps.

Bought a refurbished phone to add to the the system I already have. The phone works well with good range. It also works well as a handset for Skype with additional device connect to the computer via USB port. It can also be used as a video monitor, such as a baby monitor, with additional camera purchased separately, but the video quality is so poor, thus I returned the camera.

We bought this 2 line phone base used & the display on the phone is a little hard to read, but we also bought 2 new handsets to go with it & they all work fine. Love the fact that the additional handsets don't need the phone line, can be plugged into power anywhere & work. You can also save the stored phone numbers to the base or the accessory handet.

While this may be an inexpensive, 2-line, phone system with lots of functions...it is not worth a dime. I ordered this with 3 additional handsets. I had to return one handset from the moment I opened it as it did not function at all. Thank goodness for Amazon's friendly and easy return/exchange policy. The interference is ridiculous and you cannot hear unless there is absolutely no back ground noise (not even the sound of my computer processor) and even then, it is quite difficult. The volume was adjusted and up as far as it would go and every call is still incredibly difficult to hear. It should be noted that I have no hearing difficulties what-so-ever. The LCD display on 2 of the 4 handsets was illegible after only 2 months of use. You cannot use any of the handsets or any other features for that matter, if someone is listening to messages or using features on any of the other handsets - base included. Needless to say, I have just purchased a Panasonic system to replace this one after only 4 months of use.

"Decent phone for a low price." 2007-11-04
By Marvin D. Dieterlen (Otisco, IN USA)
I purchased this phone to replace a 2.4GHz Panasonic 2 line phone. I needed another handset and the older Panasonic was too high. I thought the 5.8 GHz would have better range. I was planning on using a second handset and charger in another building about 100 yards from the house to give me intercom service to the house and a phone out there. The GE starts to get a little choppy at the building and loses signal as soon as I enter. The Panasonic 2.4GHz with it's 2 antenna base has slightly better range than the 5.8GHz GE which has no external antenna on the base. Although the sound is good on the GE, my Panasonic has better sound and has speakerphone on the handset. I wish for my situation I had purchased a Panasonic 5.8GHz phone. For most people this would not be an issue. The only other problem I have with the phone is it takes 4 AA batteries. I haven't put them in yet and it keeps resetting the time.

        The Phone That Talks
When a call comes in, this phone doesn't just let you see who's calling, it actually tells you who's calling with Talking Caller ID1,2. Using text-to-speech technology, the caller's name is announced between rings if name/number Caller ID1 information is available.

        Can You Repeat That?
With SlowTalk message playback, you'll never miss important information again. You can slow down the playback speed of recorded messages by 30 percent at the touch of a button. And with this system's all-digital answering system, those messages will already be crystal clear and easy to retrieve, with up to 18 minutes of recording time.

Voices Come Through Loud and Clear
By simulating a band signal above and below the normal bandwidth limitations, Voice Enhancer Technology helps clarify and improve sound reception creating a natural-sounding voice that is easy to hear and understand.

        Turn the Ringer Off...
Don't miss important calls when the ringer is off. The Light-Up Indicator at the base of the antenna will flash quickly to show that you have an incoming call, and it will flash slowly to let you know you have a new message. You can also choose up to three different light-up indicator colors to link to your pre-programmed phonebook data. Light-Up ID1,4 requires corresponding Caller ID information to be received from an incoming call.

        ...Or Keep the Ringer On
With Ringer ID1, you can choose from a downloaded or selectable ringer to link to your pre-programmed phonebook data, which also requires corresponding Caller ID information to be received from an incoming call.

Let the Kids Join the Conversation
With a Digital Duplex Speakerphone on the back of each handset, you can enjoy convenient, high-quality, hands-free conversations from any room in the house. So let the kids join in on the conversation with Grandma and Grandpa, or paint your nails while you chat with your best friend. The base unit also features a dual keypad, which lets you dial without having to use the handset.

         "2 phones & an answering machine" 2009-01-26
By Robert M. Bethea Jr. (NYC)
I got this as a replacement for an older Panasonic telephone which I was

quite happy with - this new phone is really great - just what I wanted -

2 phones with one phone connection plus answering machine.

"Good phone, moderate handset speaker sound" 2008-07-02
        By BC.Vellore (Utah, USA)
Got this phone to supplement existing panasonic phone (excessive talking!). The talking caller-id is especially helpful to filter out tele-marketers during dinner time. The handset speaker volume is moderate only at the highest setting.

Works as advertised. Delivered on time and in perfect condition, even though the box had been previously opened (as indicated by Amazon when I purchased it).

         "4.5 out of 5" 2008-05-09

These are pretty nice, considering they are 5.8 GHz so they don't interfere with your wireless, and that they have nice voice quality and very nice features.

I personally don't use caller ID or talking caller ID (which is one of the features on this phone) so I can't really say much about it, but you can find out for yourself. There is voice enhancement, which works well I suppose, and slow talk for people who have slow hearing. The phonebook is easy to use and convenient if you have many contacts, and you can send them from one set to another so you don't have to customize everything. There is also a wide variety of ringtones you can choose from.

Some things that might improve this product is the speaker phone; it could be a bit louder, but at that volume, it is also pretty clear. The answering machine cannot be heard when someone listens to it, so you don't know if they hung up, if you didn't pick up. The number pads would be nice if they had back-light for dark clarity.

In all, its a great phone, hope you like it.

         "Overall, a good phone" 2008-04-22
        By Mary Ann Rensch (California)
We purchased this phone because our old phone was only 2.8 GHz and it was interfering with our wireless internet. The old phone would knock us off of the internet. Overall, the phone is great. We have always purchased Panasonic phones and they last. I would have kept our old phone if it had not been for the internet. Two things that I do not like about this phone is that the key pad does not light up, so if you are in minimal light, you may not be able to see the numbers you are pushing. The second is that the phone will not display how many messages you have or whether you have old messages saved. I loved the old phone we had because it would tell how many messages we had, whether old or new. Something to keep in mind if you like to keep track of your messages. I love that it is lightweight and easy to use. I was able to feed my daughter her bottle and still hold the phone with my shoulder. Also like the talking feature. Helpful when you are playing with your kids in the other room and you don't necessarily want to run for every call. The Caller ID feature is very nice!
